The 2024 Chop Of Life - Drum Lesson
This isn't supposed to be YOUR chop of life, nor is it really UA-cam's Chop of Life. Hell, there is no "Chop Of Life" because chops and licks always take a backseat to groove, feel, pocket, and appropriate playing. That being said, when you're bored of your own playing, ya feel like you play the same thing over and over; adding a new chop to your playing can give new life to your playing and your enjoyment of the kit. So, this is MY 2024 Chop Of Life because I get super excited to sit down on the kit and discover new and hopefully tasteful ways to use it. That being said... the link for my metronome is below, LOL 🍵🙏🍵🙏

I hope you enjoy this drum lesson, and I hope it inspires you to try shifting the gears of your favorite patterns. Thanks for watchi...

That was a feel good story we need more of in this crazy world. Also I have decided to finally at 55 to get my first high end ( and first ever) Gretsch kit! I was torn for weeks trying to decide which series and configuration I wanted. ( they are all so good). But this clip made the decision for me. The Blue Glass Broadkaster in those sizes you mentioned. That clip at the end of playing your new kit was the seal of approval!

Sometimes I find videos like this really encouraging and really defeating, the dichotomy is complex. I'm a begginer, trying to become self taught as that is my only option (unfortunately), and I appreciate that I can try to deveop a skill and see that it is possible. My problem may be that I'm not patient enough with myself or too preoccupied "copying" talented people, instead of finding my groove, so it was nice to see a part if you that I relate to. So, thank you? I hope I get there. ✌️

I think you find your true "voice" when one day you are playing and it feels fun again like when you first played a drum. Drums isn't about mastering rudiment upon rudiment and gluing them together, more it's about becoming seemless, expressive and, ultimately free... That feeling you had when you first sat down at the kit. (Before "influences") There's an interview of Vinnie Colaiuta talking about the moment he stopped chasing influences and starting defining his own sound... It touched me, cuz we don't always talk about this with each other as drummers.

I agree about not obsessing too much about gear, though I have to fight my GAS impulses ;). My current favorite snare is a Ludwig Standard aluminum from ~1970. With decent heads and snare wires, and tuned properly, it sings. Thanks for the videos. Love the doggies.
